BLENNZ Auckland South

Resource Teacher Vision (RTV)
2 x Full-Time Permanent Positions (1SU) – commencing Week 1, Term 3 2017.

Due to staff promotion and an increasing roll, BLENNZ Auckland South is looking for two dynamic, innovative and experienced teachers with current Teacher Registration and up-to-date knowledge of Te Whåriki and/or the NZ Curriculum to support the education of learners from birth to the age of 21, who are blind, deaf-blind and/or low vision.

The successful applicants will have good interpersonal skills, be competent users of technology and demonstrate an ability to develop excellent working relationships with parents, family/whānau and educators.  Working successfully as part of a team is a key component of this itinerant position.  Experience in vision education is desirable, however applicants with relevant teaching experience will be fully supported.

BLENNZ Resource Teacher Vision Early Childhood Services

Permanent 0.6 Part Time Position – commencing Week 1, Term 3, 2017.

BLENNZ Immersion is looking for a dynamic, innovative experienced teacher to  develop and facilitate campus-based and regional courses together with associated digital resources to support learning for early childhood students who are blind, deaf-blind and low vision. This includes courses for families, and for Resource Teachers Vision. These national programmes will complement teaching and learning at the local level.

The successful applicant will be a highly skilled practitioner who can demonstrate an ability to develop excellent working relationships with ākonga, parents, whānau, colleagues, educators and other professionals. Working successfully within the National Early Childhood Services, HECC and Immersion Teams and as part of the Assessment and Teaching Team, are key components of this position.  Experience and qualifications in vision education are essential.

This position will have a significant time component on the campus in Auckland.

Developmental Orientation and Mobility Instructor Position

This position will be part of a regional and national service, significant travel will be required.

The Blind and Low Vision Education Network New Zealand (BLENNZ) is a special character school that provides educational services to learners who are blind, deafblind or low vision.  One of the services it provides is Developmental Orientation and Mobility (DOM) which is about techniques and support to learners, their whanau and educational team to optimise the learner’s ability to move and travel.

Qualified DOMs are invited to apply by submitting their CV and letter of application.

If you are not qualified but interested in working in this field, BLENNZ invites expressions of interest from individuals who have a relevant degree eg. OT/Physio/Teaching. Training will be provided in partnership with Massey University.  The training is designed to be completed over the first three years of a candidate’s employment.  The training would involve significant travel to enable the staff member to participate in a range of practicum experiences, allowing them to develop the skills and knowledge required to be an effective member of the BLENNZ DOM Service.
