Celebrating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities

December 2, 2016 by blennzict | 0 comments

Today is International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD). This is held on 3 December each year. The day is promoted across the world by the United Nations to encourage better understanding of disability issues.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities and is a chance to celebrate the progress we have made to improve the lives of disabled New Zealanders, says Disability Issues Minister Nicky Wagner.

It was first pronounced by the General Assembly of the United Nations in December 1992 marking the day of the first meeting of the UN Working Group on Indigenous Populations of the Subcommission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights, in 1982.

More information can be found on the Human Rights Commission website.

Homai Campus Newsletter – Term 3 2016

November 23, 2016 by blennzict | 0 comments

Homai Campus School Term 3 newsletter is ready to read! You can find out all about what has been happening on campus and at James Cook Satellite Class.

Term 3 was a busy and exciting time.  Throughout the year we have been supported in our sports programme by amazing staff from the John Walker Field of Dreams Foundation.  This programme has provided learning experiences in adapted sports both at school and outside the classroom.  They were very much involved in the BLENNZ Homai Campus Olympic Day.  The students have gained a great deal from the work of this organisation.

We were very sad to farewell Becker Broughton who has been in the James Cook Satellite Class for a number of years.  He brought his knowledge of Tikanga Māori to his role and shared this knowledge, skills and culture with us. Across BLENNZ and on the Homai Campus he has our appreciation and respect. We wish him all the very best in his retirement.

Read all about what has been happening during the term in our Homai Campus Term 3 Newsletter.
